Biography

Amanda Ann Palmer is a sculptor currently located in Hartland, Vermont and working with clay to create feminine geometric cairns. She uses an expanding vocabulary of techniques; rolling, throwing, and pinching the clay, to create modular shapes that are built into towers. Inspired by water and wind-formed landscapes, the light and shadow interpret and reinterpret the forms and the space between them. Palmer grew up in rural Alabama. She spent her youth building forts, playing in the dirt, and unearthing old tractor parts. In 2005, Palmer earned her BFA with a concentration in ceramics from Jacksonville State University in Alabama. Since then she has been making pots and honing her craft here in Vermont.

Statement about works in A CHANGING FORM Fine Art Ceramics

I began making this collection of cairns in 2018 and have enjoyed experimenting with changing the surfaces as I go along.

It is especially nice to see them displayed together as the spaces between the cairns enriches the viewing experience. I've included some examples of this in my photos. I hope you enjoy.

Thank you.
