Biography

Caren Helm, currently operating Pizzazz Pottery, in Fair Haven, Vermont, creates functional and sculptural hand built and wheel thrown stoneware. Helm’s career in the arts has included a wholesale production pottery studio, a longtime position as a community arts educator, and a gallery owner. Helm’s says, “The gift of productive hands, an open heart and an inquisitive mind allows my creative spirit to flourish.” Helm’s work presented in A CHANGING FORM Fine Art Ceramics represents work done prior to, and after, the artist suffered a traumatic brain injury. Helm’s new work is the product of immense change in the artist’s life, a way of seeing and interpreting every experience, every day.

Artist's Statement

Art is a way of life; a way of seeing and interpreting every experience every day. Events, people and ideas imprint my creative conscience.  From there, my head determines the process. My heart determines how I feel about the subject and the expression is realized through the work of my hands. The gift of productive hands, an open heart and an inquisitive mind allows my creative spirit to flourish.

Statement about works in A CHANGING FORM Fine Art Ceramics

The theme of this show has great personal meaning for me.

These photos represent two collections of sculptural stoneware pottery, truly Changing Forms.

The first collection, represent my work prior to my Traumatic Brain Injury.

The second collection, represent my work after my T.B.I.
