Naomi Lindenfeld, currently working out of her studio in West Brattleboro, Vermont, uses the rhythms and textures of carving into layered, colored clay, to show the movement, flow, and color. The artist’s inspirations include patterns in nature, dance and her mother’s fiber work. Lindenfeld co-founded the Brattleboro Clayworks in 1983, and teaches ceramics at The Putney School.
Inspired by patterns in nature and a love of dance, my work speaks of rhythms and textures of movement. Carving into layered colored clay, rings of color reminiscent of rock striations, ripples of water or wood grain appear, resultingin a richness of color, flow and a multi-dimensional quality in my work. All of the items that I make are intended for daily use as well as for rituals and celebrations.
