I had no idea that a nationally imposed isolation would release the painter in me. The discovery of joy in a blank canvas and tubes of paint sprawled around me has been revelatory. As a neophyte and without preconceived constraints - or even instruction - I have applied keyboard creativity to paintbrushes and palette knives. This visitor is here to stay.
Statement on works in the VERMONT SUMMER GROUP SHOW All Mediums | All Subjects | All Art
Ditto Artist's Statement. I use the inspiration of pictures or photos to create my paintings. My paper plate palettes are a cacophony of mixed colors; my kitchen floor dappled now in various splattered hues; my painting shirt smudged with hand-wipes just like a baking apron. I'm in love with my newfound expression of beauty and art.
Having arrived at the official Medicare age 12 months ago, I am still working full-time but determining how to carve out a deliberate space for writing and now, painting. When my role as the Executive Director for AIDS Services for the Monadnock Region (2000-2014) ended, I accepted the invitation of dear Robert to relocate to Bellows Falls. Nothing compares to Village life, except my bucket list travel to South Africa in December 2019 when I volunteered with an organization that provides assistance to AIDS orphans and child-headed families. Perhaps one day I will actually be able to retire, but for now I am humbled with gratitude upon awakening each morning.
