Artists’s Statement
“These three paintings represent my breaking loose of the darkness that crept into my paintings in 2016. I find myself in a new place with this current work, and am glad to have had the journey, which I expect will continue.”

Biography
Matthew Saxton uses precise lines along with monumental shapes in his compositions of landscapes done in oil. Saxton’s use of texture to portray his subjects is balanced by the open space of constructed forms and solid color. Now embarking on a creative journey of renewed vigor, Canal Street Art Gallery is pleased to exhibit Matthew Saxton in “Anniversary!”, the artist’s premier showing both in the gallery and in Vermont.
