Canal Street Art Gallery’s ANNIVERSARY! Show Opens
The public is invited to attend the opening reception of “ANNIVERSARY!” from 5-8pm on Friday, November 16th. Take part in celebrating the one year anniversary of Canal Street Art Gallery, and viewing artwork from local artists including new work from the Gallery’s represented artists. “ANNIVERSARY!” is on view to the public from November 14th through January 12th. The Gallery is located at 23 Canal Street in the Historic Downtown Village of Bellows Falls, Vermont and is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00am to 4:00pm, and all other days by appointment.
“ANNIVERSARY!”, the seventh exhibition presented by Canal Street Art Gallery since opening its doors in November, 2017, marks one year since the Gallery held its “Grand Opening Show”. This new show continues the Gallery’s mission to represent and exhibit contemporary artists in all styles and mediums, offering an open space where all creative voices may be heard. The Gallery promotes art in a collaboration to build culture and community, and to support the local creative economy. Important to the Gallery mission is the recognition of art-making as both income and expense to the artist. The selling of an artist's work can have a direct effect on their ability to afford the time and materials necessary to create more. Canal Street Art Gallery offers a sliding commission structure to provide the most revenue possible directly to the artists it consigns with. The Gallery takes pride in offering a wide range of pricing from low to moderate, making the purchase of original art attainable to all collectors including the seasoned, new, and unexpected.
Canal Street Art Gallery was founded by three artists who saw a need for a centralized and active location for creating and sharing art in the Town of Rockingham, Vermont. The idea was clear: the town needed a gallery again. A gallery to provide opportunity for the many artists in the area, a location for creative incubation, and a beautiful space to appreciate art in and to share with visitors and locals. Doing this while overlooking the Canal in the historic restored Exner Block, also home to ten artist live/work spaces and to RAMP (Rockingham Arts and Museum Project), in Downtown Bellows Falls; made sense.
One year later, Canal Street Art Gallery has grown up a bit. New lighting and exhibition improvements come with each successive show. The Gallery’s roster of represented and available artists continues to grow. The breadth of the audience appreciating and collecting art from those artists now boasts local and regional collectors along with national and international. Working with the town’s monthly art walk, Bellows Falls 3rd Friday, the space hosts monthly opening receptions and events featuring local musicians and sometimes caterers. Along the way collaborations such as a So.VT Young Professionals pop-up mixer, Live Painting with the artists, artist led participatory collage making, and life drawing sessions have brought an exciting and evolving public event schedule to the community. Looking forward to their second year, Canal Street Art Gallery remains as passionate and excited as ever to continue sharing and appreciating new art while helping to support the artists who create it.
