Artist's Statement

I am a Vermonter born and raised. I went to school at Liberty University for Graphic Design. I have always loved art and have evolved from drawing to ink, color pencil, and painting. I have moved to Bellows Falls three months ago after getting married and am exploring everything Bellows Falls has to offer. I am pleased with the many artistic outlets in this town and desire to present my artwork to the world to make a name for myself.

Statement on works in ART FOR ALL Seasonal Group Show

I have always loved the contrast of ink and paper. These are the first two of a set of seven. The series is still in process. The theory is the anthropomorphism of the seven separate spirits of the holy spirit (Rev 3:1). I am planning to use them in a book series I am writing as an intimidating force of undiscovered or unique mythological creatures. I want to be as original as possible while still making the creatures magnificent.

Biography

Canal Street Art Gallery is please to present the artwork of Joseph Hicks in ART FOR ALL Seasonal Group Show. Hicks is an emerging artist, currently working in Bellows Falls, Vermont. A trained graphic designer, Hicks works in ink, pencil, and paint. “Kraken” and “Jackalope: The Cenkoun”, both created in 2019 with ink on paper, are on exhibit in the show. The works are part of a series the artist is currently working on representing the seven separate spirits of the holy spirit. The graphically illustrated mythological creatures are studies in the artist’s process in writing and illustrating a series of graphic novels.
