Marianne Shaughnesey

Marianne Shaughnessey Solo Show

Marianne Shaughnessy

April 18 ~ June 14

Join us on 3rd Friday Gallery Night May 16 and June 20 from 5-7pm for opening receptions and to meet the artist

Marianne Shaughnessy, based in Athens, Vermont, shares new watercolor paintings of intimate and overlooked subject matter from the Lot and Garonne area of France. Shaugnessy, a writer by profession, has maintained her drawing practice throughout her life. The artist is now most attracted by the translucency and challenge of watercolor painting. In artworks such as “La Porte Bleue” and “Red Shutters”, Shaughnessy focuses her compositions on architecture using color and light.

“La Porte Bleue” stands out with a deep blue door and pink climbing roses in front of a bright stone facade and behind an intricately patinated iron garden fence. “My work has focused primarily on landscapes from places where I have been and love – Ireland, France, Scotland, the Cape Cod shore– or here at home in Vermont. Of late, I have narrowed my focus from the broad view to tighter images or ones that might be overlooked.” -Marianne Shaughnessy
