Artist Statement

“My artistic journey is about humor and humanity: the universal truths of the human condition.  I generally gravitate towards animal and/or human forms when sculpting.  Each piece is about seeing life’s travels from different points of view in a somewhat whimsical way, while capturing the essence of each animal and/or individual.”

-Carla Liguori

Biography

Carla Liguori works with the materials of clay, needle felting, found objects, paint, and glazes to create mixed media anthropomorphic sculptures.

Liguori’s work is done with humor and candor, and with an attention to details which show aspects of portraiture and art historical commentary.

The artist’s use of textile with terra cotta, along with the depiction of delusional unsanctified forms, gives Liguori’s sculptures a twisted whimsy and a “rabbit-hole” of a narrative for the viewer to follow.
