Artist’s Statement
“This series was created while listening to a friend’s music and was a response to his newest album. The style was inspired by my desire to experiment with abstraction and relates to a series of paintings that started with the view from the window of an airplane. I work with color, bound by shape, and punctuated with dots and dashes to create an energy that flows from the canvas and embraces the vitality of nature.
I am an optimist who sees potential all around. I hope that my work brings a moment of reflection about the possibilities of people, painting and the planet. Having grown up in an old Vermont farmhouse on a dead end road, I have always found comfort in banging around outdoors; forts and fairy houses were part of our backwoods.
With working artists all around town, making art was always a reasonable goal. Now, I teach art to a lot of teenagers (who inspire me daily) and when I can, I also make art. Most of my pieces deal with the intersection of nature and people. ”
