Artist's Statement
What used to be a vehicle for me to express what I’ve observed during my day to day travels has now become a way to express stories. I went from capturing images from ordinary life in a unique way and create something extraordinary to coming up with concepts of my own. The beauty of decay and abandonment became my creative muse for a while as I occasionally worked with professional and aspiring models to improve my craft. The transition was gradual as I found myself still immersed in abandoned locations but this time with models. Then my desire to create stories from concept to shoot or to just see what stories I could conjure up using the human form has become my driving force these days. Since I don’t want to be limited, I’ve expanded my interests to working in the studio as well as any location that provides the privacy to freely stretch creative muscles. By using the gifts that each model brings to the collaboration, I’ve been able to create images with more passion and depth than I have in the past.
Biography
Yevette Hendler, currently based in Westminster, Vermont, is a photographer who works primarily with the human figure. The artist tells real or imagined stories through the use of landscape, architecture, and the figures themselves. Through an intimate relationship with her models, Hendler also allows their story to come through in collaboration. Now using more contrived sets and studio work to create new concepts, Handler has found the driving force behind her current work to be allowing the human form to tell it’s own story.
